Not my car, but popped up in my CL filter I use for watching for 6.9's: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/d/1975-mercedes-280c/6636597205.html

I had sincerely forgotten how much I like a 280c that's well cared for. I both love and hate those wheels, but dang these look great. Most of the coupes I see for sale these days are the next generation newer, and those just don't look nearly as good as these do.

Nothing important, just thought I'd share. :)

I've owned one of these coupes continously since I was 19 years old (25 years). Aside from rust, they're great cars.

My current car is an Italian spec 280CE with fuel injection and a 4 speed manual. It's in the hopper for restoration, just waiting for time and money.

With best regards

Al

I was tempted by it, but I just took in a W202 C220, and am thinking that a S65 is likely to be acquired before the year's out, and that'll have all my garage space pretty thoroughly filled out.

If you are my age - 62- and growing up in Germany you remember the /8 Mercedes from everywhere. They were Taxis and your girl friend parents car. The 280E was considered the factory hot rod and raised their owner's cool level by several degrees. Diesels sedans were everywhere but the coupes were rare.
In about 1978 a guy came to my shop in a gorgeous like new 250C. After a short conversation he steered the subject to his ex girlfriend and how he was gonna kill her. I asked him to leave and he did all very politely. A couple weeks later he crashed his coupe the wrong way through a closed gate in a parking garage and shot his ex girl friend. That's my dash8 coupe story.

I had to smile when I saw your comment about the 280E!! I have an 280E Euro M110 with the factory Getrag 5 speed. Fully optioned too. Bought by accident on ebay. Original 85 Stutgart purchase and imported and federalized in 85. When I got the car it ran terribly with Johnson Box and odd ball WUR. We converted the entire system back to 100% Euro. We did everything and the car has no emission controls. Runs very well and strongly with 143K miles on the clock.

My biggest problem is people thinking it is a 240D and pulling out in front of me. Its not a fast car but can be quick under right circumstances. 5 speed and 9 to 1 compression make a nice difference.
