My spring projects include replacement of rear strut bellows, which are pretty shredded. This, of course, entails removal of the ball joints from the struts. I really have no reason to believe that the ball joints are no good. But if the strut is out it's a lot easier to do it then than repeat the whole process down the road.

So: Are the rear ball joints pretty reliable? Or am I better off just replacing and never thinking about it again? [The parts don't seem very readily available] Thanks,

Dave

At this point neither 1163201128 or 1163200828 are available from MB or ebay or ebay.de.

If it aint broke use what you have. If it's broke ask around here maybe someone has an extra. supposedly they were available for $750 from MB just 6 months ago.

This is my biggest gripe with MB, that they no longer supply several essential items like this for 6.9's.

Ugh. I was afraid of that so I'll re-use. Fortunately I have no reason to think that the old ones are shot. Thanks!

Happy ending. Struts and ball joints are now out. Ball joints look great. No slop, not grinding, seals look like new. I needlessly feared the worst. "Hope for the best, prepare for the worst."

Nice to know about the happy ending. Nevertheless, I still make it known that I have rebuilt rear, as well as front, bottom ball joints that have been refurbished and are like new. Regards Styria
