I drove with the 230TE for a couple of months and sold the car a week ago. Before selling the station wagon I bought a 1998 ML 320 in an auction, here in Finland. It was a bargain; price was roughly a half what people ask for those. Luckily no hidden faults; only a cracked windshield (passes MOT with it though) and a bit more rust in the wheel arches than expected. Originally a Swedish car, metallic green on tan leather, just like my Chevy.

560SEC as well as 300 SEL 6.3 pulled out from storage; they run well of course .

In fact the day I posted the previous message, being frustrated in waiting the Title (of the 450SEL 6.9 I bought in January) to come up I found a fair 380 SL for sale in central Finland. I had to buy it on May 4th as it was a good solid car but just a bit neglected.

My plan was to do a quick restoration (like on Fast And Loud) and to sell it befor the 6.9 arrives from the U.S.

The car needed a new set of seat upholstery (I bought Palomino-coloured from TopsOnline.com), correct 6.5" Bundts with new 205/70 tires, a Becker radio plus s/s windscreen wiper blades. Plus a wash and polishing, and some detailing in the engine bay and trunk.

The car was inspected late June by MBC Finland H-Plates officers and it passed well.

But, nobody wanted to buy the car; I was asking 13k€ in the beginning, then dropped to 12k and finally 11k in September. Now the car is stored for the next driving season.

All my photos are here:

ahh the poor old 107. Nothing wrong with them as a car but never try selling one. I managed to sell one I was going to repower with a 6.9 but it had the usual rust everywhere . A couple of years later I am at a concours in Brisbane and there is my old 450SLC on display....

What the heck, try to stuff a MB 6.9 liter V8 in it. What a machine that would be..

Yes, if the all 155 hp are still available . The US engine runs well under 3000 rpm and gives enough torque for usual commuting. Over 3000 rpm there is nothing ...

Our local markets have a lots of these for sale and the value of the cars has gone down a lot due to import from the United States.

I had a really early japan delivered 380 SE which had the early version engine (different stroke etc ) and above 2500 it was amazingly powerful. The next series were way down on power compared to them. Perhaps you could swap in a euro 560 ?

Could it have been just a basic euro-version with 200+ hp? I though the basic engine was always the same on all 380's. The Energy Concept on 1982 did not affect on the dimensions.

On 450 there was first the cast iron M117. Then MB built an aluminium 500 for SLC 450 SLC 5.0 for about two years. When W126 and 500 SLC were launched the "final" M117 500 engine had different bore & stroke than the pre-series that was available only on 450 SLC 5.0.

By the way I sold my Chevy today, an era has come to end; no more US cars - just MBs.

380 SL is gone now. We closed the deal a month ago but the new owner picked up the car only last Friday.

Last Sunday I was offered to buy a mint condition 1974 450 SLC, euro version. It has some problems with the D-Jetronic and has not been driven for three years because of the problem. I bought it and will get it home in a couple of weeks I hope, I need to use a trailer as it can not be driven.

A Euro 380 motor will push you back in your seat. A mechanic I knew had one in a 380SE and it felt like a stump puller. US ones are very under powered.

With best regards

On my new baby there is a leak at the intake manifold, probably one or more of the rubber o-rings have failed as the problems seems to come on and off whenever it wants.

One evening the car worked well. Wow, the euroversion of M117 450 really pulls the car.

I found the leak by spraying gasoline into the intake manifold lower plenum area, it sucks air from there.

After wash:

The wheels in pictures are only for storage purpose, I have a very nice set of Bundts that came with the car.

I owned one a few years ago and was going to covert it to 6.9 power. It ran so well (well over 200k's very easily) but was rusty I sold the car. A couple of years later it turned up again being raced by it's new owner in historic racing....but with same engine, just cleaned up a bit.

I have also picked up a ML to serve as a workhorse, I just need to fix a few problems, DAS I think.

I really have shifted in perspective on the 107. I find that as the years pass I'm developing a strong preference for the coupe.

A lot of my MB club friends seem to turn to like C107 when (we are) getting older, me too. Interesting to know it does not happen in Finland only.

Anyhow, here is the starting point:

Oops, where did it disappear:

Well, outdoors...

After pressure washer:

I cleaned all the surfaces, replaced the intake manifold gaskets, the lower/upper plenum rubber guides (seals) and fuel injector rubber seals.

Now the M117 runs perfectly, no misfiring or high idling. I had to open the air screw in order to keep the motor running after warmed up. Probably the problem was on the aged and hardened rubber seals between the lower plenum and upper manifold; the design was the old ancient one that was changed already in the late 70´s. Here is the current model of the rubber seal:

Prior to my work the cars has had a new cold idling thermostat valve and the main intake manifold pressure regulator, all brand new. As well all the ignition parts have been replaced to brand new Bosch ones.

Nice job, nothing like a clean motor and fresh rubber.
