What the heck, try to stuff a MB 6.9 liter V8 in it. What a machine that would be..

Wolf, next door, did the resto for a mining magnate, who unfortunately died . The car is locked away with a collection of other high end mercedes ,never to be seen until the family settles the estate, which may be never.
The car was bought for $50,000 initially. Hey! our peso is worth more than the USD ...

Hmm not that plane that dropped out of the sky over Africa recently? Must be a beauty though for that price. My mates uncle has a rather large collection in Brisbane, Le Mans GT40's, Gullwings, Bathurst winners, dozens of cars. Nice life!!

Not that magnate, a different one - died sadly of cancer. He was a financial member of this Group. Sounds like your mate's uncle's name is Bowden.

Dont you just love the cranks in these things? i have M189 in pieces at the moment and the sheer quality of what was mass produced engine is amazing. i should say Semi mass produced because things like the hand written engraving numbering the conrods points to a certain level of care in manufacture.

I have to agree Ron it is a great piece of engineering inside (unfortunatly most people don't get to see it).

Do you know if Mercedes are the only source of bearings (mains & bigends) ? , i've had a look at a number of suppliers & they do not list the engine. A quick look at the Classic Centre in Germany & they want about 1000 GBP for both . I'll check the UK price on Monday.

Tried the Fedral Mogul online catalogue & it does not reconise the M-100 engine of 6.3 , also visited an engine shop & had a look though there Glyco paper catalogues & the M-100 is not listed so it looks like its Mercedes for the parts (and the UK dealer has come back with a better price). When they priced the piston rings there were 2 versions - up to engine no 6500 ish & after with the later ones being 3 times the price of the early (I need the early ones ). The realy shocking price was the cost of the two rubber/metal seals on the rear of block - 80 each and there unique to the M-100

I have been there recently. I got the main bearings and gaskets from Neil Dubey at www.300sel.com. The rings I got from www.deves.com. I got zero blue smoke right from the very first start. Have not measured compression but I am sure it is way up there. They have four different sets for M100's so make sure you get the correct one if you buy from them.

Pjtigger, why arent the internals on that block covered with the red (Glyptol in think) paint? I have never seen a 6.3 that wasnt...
Just an observation, could it have been torn down and cleaned before and the glyptol removed?
